NEW Energy Efficiency Grant England Announced
On 23rd September 2024 the Government announced that a new energy efficiency grant for England means that funding will be made available for local authorities to improve the energy performance and heating systems of low-income homes in England in a scheme they’re calling Warm Homes: Local Grant.
We don’t yet know the full details but keep an eye on our section on energy efficiency grants England and we’ll keep you informed as the details come through.
Warm Homes: Local Grant – What We Know So Far
The Warm Homes: Local Grant will begin delivery in 2025 and will provide energy performance upgrades and low carbon heating. Theses energy efficiency grants will be supplied via local authorities, to households that meet the following criteria:
- live in a property that is in England
- are on low income
- the property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) between D and G
- the property is privately owned (owner occupied or privately rented)
Once this new energy efficiency grant for England is in delivery local authorities will be able to install energy performance measures and low carbon heating to eligible homes in their area. The actual measures included have yet to be finalised but are expected to include:
- insulation
- solar panels
- air source heat pump (if suitable)
Upgrades will be tailored to individual homes so that the most appropriate measures are installed.
The great news is that these energy efficiency grants cover the full cost of agreed measures – occupants meeting the above criteria will not be expected to contribute to the cost of upgrades.
We don’t yet know the scale of the grant scheme or the total amount of funding that will be made available for local authorities to deliver – it is the subject to the spending review and will be confirmed in due course.
New Energy Efficiency Grant England – What Happens Next
At this stage and as this is such a new energy efficiency grant England, the local authorities are digesting the WH: LG guidance documentation which includes information on the design, delivery model and eligible measures and preparing to submit an expression of interest when the window opens – expected to be in October 2024.
Once the expression of interest window opens, all eligible local authorities who complete an EOI form will be allocated funding to participate in the scheme. Following this we will get to know more about how it will be administered and how you can apply and access the new energy efficiency grant England.
